My Path to Becoming a Stationery Designer
Hey everyone! Today I would like to tell you my story - how I got into stationery design and how it all began. Even when I was studying health management (what a long word), it was my dream to one day be self-employed and independent. I wanted to create something that would not only bring me joy, but also put a smile on other people's faces. But for a long time I didn't know which direction to go in. After graduating, I got a permanent job at a well-known insurance company. A really well-paid and secure job. But to be honest, it got too boring for me at some point. And then there were the 9 to 5 working hours, little home office (at least until Corona came along), annoying colleagues, this dependence on vacation plans when you wanted to travel spontaneously... Then came my own wedding in 2019. I still remember the feeling of anticipation and excitement as we planned every detail of our wedding. From the location to the decorations - everything had to be harmonious. But it was the stationery that captured my heart. The invitation cards, the place cards, the welcome sign - all these little details made our wedding something special. And suddenly I knew: This is it! This is my passion! (Fun fact: Even as a child I did an incredible amount of crafts and painting, but why did that never occur to me?) While we were still planning our wedding, I began to look into wedding stationery in depth. I researched, experimented with different designs and materials and gathered inspiration. And then I dared to take the step into self-employment, but initially only as a side business. After a short time, I got my first orders thanks to Instagram. It went really well. I soon had my own online shop where I could buy personalized place cards, table numbers, etc. But then, after about 1.5 years, the point came when everything became too much. My passion project had become "too big". For months, I was working on orders and contracts until 11 p.m. I had to decide how I wanted to continue. A part-time job was not an option for my employer, so the only options were to quit or give up my passion. The latter was not an option for me. You listen to the well-meaning advice of adults: "Being self-employed in this field is far too risky, don't do it under any circumstances!" So weeks went by in which I racked my brains. Then, on a Thursday (I still remember it clearly), right after an unnecessary meeting, I handed in my notice. It hadn't been planned for long. It just felt right at the time. "But what if it goes wrong?" I never asked myself that question because I was simply sure that it would work out. I knew exactly what I wanted to do. It wasn't easy and there were many ups and downs along the way. Every day a new little adventure begins, but I couldn't be happier. I want to encourage you to believe in yourself and your dreams. Sometimes life takes us on detours, but in the end we find our way. Because who knows, maybe behind a wedding invitation lies the starting signal for your dream project? Well, did you expect the story to be like this? Photo: Anna Kuhn

Tips for your stress-free seating plan
The seating plan for your wedding - a topic that is often associated with stress and despair, but it doesn't have to be that way! I'm here to give you a few tips so that you don't find the seating plan an impossible task. And once the rough table layout is in place, endless creative design options open up to incorporate your personality or your wedding motto. Fixed seating arrangement or not? If you decide to specify a fixed seating arrangement, you must first create a guest list. But also consider whether a fixed seating arrangement is really necessary. You actually have three options: completely free choice of seats (except at the bridal table), fixed table assignment but free choice of seats at the table, and a fixed seating arrangement with individual name cards or signs. The perfect seating arrangement Once you have decided on a fixed seating arrangement, ask yourself the question: Who should be seated together at the table? Consider factors such as existing acquaintances, similar ages, shared interests and personality types. For example, you can mix both sides of the family, bring together different groups of friends or seat introverted guests at quieter tables. The implementation of the seating plan The seating plan can be implemented in different ways. You can either use an Excel table or work with post-its. With the Excel version, you can list all the guests in a table and mark them with different colors to identify groups. You can then distribute the guests across the tables. Alternatively, you can use post-its and place the guests directly on a drawn plan. The shape of your seating plan Once the seating arrangement is decided, you can decide how you want to design your seating plan. You can either use individual cards for each guest, create cards for each table, or create a large poster or sign seating plan. Remember, you can also personalize your seating plan with things like shared travel destinations, favorite songs, or symbols of your relationship. Make your seating plan individual! The seating plan gives you the opportunity to incorporate your personality and relationship in a creative way. For example, you can use a world map or a "family tree" as a seating plan, or use objects that have meaning for your relationship. Let your creativity run wild and make your seating plan something really special! I hope that these tips will help you to create your seating plan stress-free and with joy. And if you need even more inspiration, take a look at my Pinterest board or Instagram - for even more tips on the topic!

What special formats of wedding invitations are there?
When it comes to wedding invitations, there is a lot to consider. In addition to the most important information such as date, time and location, many of you would also like to include a schedule, addresses, contacts of the witnesses or information about gifts and accommodation. The list seems endless! But don't worry, I'm here to help and advise you and show you which formats are available and which ones make sense for you. Pocketfold: The evergreen among invitations The pocketfold invitation is an absolute classic and popular with many couples. It offers space for one or two main cards and several information cards. The main cards contain the basic information such as your names, the wedding date, time and location. The information cards can then be used for further details such as the schedule for the day, addresses and contacts, hotel recommendations or even a map of how to get there. The pocketfold format is not only practical if you have a lot of information, but also aesthetically pleasing. Transparent paper as an envelope: noble and special Another popular option is to use tracing paper as an envelope. The individual cards are wrapped in the tracing paper and held together with a pretty ribbon or a wax seal. This option gives you the opportunity to design your invitations according to your taste and choose a material combination that suits you and your wedding perfectly. Make sure that the cards are the same width so that they don't slip out of the tracing paper, and choose headings for the individual cards to structure your information. Fan Invitation: Even More Diversity The fan invitation is a particularly creative and versatile option. The so-called "layering effect" creates a great three-dimensionality, and your guests can easily fan out the individual cards to see all the information. This option is particularly suitable for integrating photos and offers an interesting alternative to classic invitation cards. However, keep in mind that you tend to have less space for text and plan accordingly. No matter which option you choose, it is important that your wedding invitations suit you and your style. Let your creativity run wild and design your invitations exactly as you want them. Because at the end of the day, they should not only be informative, but also reflect your personality and your excitement for the big day. Photo: @fotoliebe.gallery

8 Mistakes in DIY Wedding Invitations
If you've decided to design your own wedding invitations, you've already taken a brave and creative step towards your big day. Homemade invitations are not only personal, but also a beautiful way to get your loved ones in the mood for your special event. I totally understand that you're full of ideas and inspiration, but there are a few big pitfalls that are easy to fall into. That's why today I want to save you from the 8 most common mistakes made with DIY wedding invitations. If you have decided to make your own wedding invitations, then that is a great decision. You have probably already started gathering inspiration and ideas. I have a lot of tips for you when it comes to homemade wedding invitations - because I used to make my own invitation cards too! The result is not only authentic and individual invitations, but also, in the best case, high-quality cards. A concern of many DIY brides is that the homemade wedding invitations will also look homemade or "cheap". To prevent this from happening, I want to save you from 8 mistakes today. In my four years as a wedding stationery designer, I have seen one or two faux pas that could have been avoided. But now let's start with the 8 most common mistakes with DIY stationery and invitations: Poor quality of materials : Use high-quality products to avoid frustration and disappointment. It is better to invest a few euros more in good materials than to waste time with inferior products. From my own experience, I can only recommend spending a few euros more and getting good materials straight away. This will save you money and time in the end. You can find high-quality materials in craft and art supply stores. If you don't have a store like this nearby, just use the relevant online shops. Content overload : Avoid overloading your invitations with too much information. Less is often more, and a clean design with white space looks more professional and appealing. If you find it difficult to arrange text and images, just look at photos of professional stationery and try to imitate the placement. It can also help to shorten long sentences to the essential content. Too many finishing touches : It's tempting to decorate your invitations with various finishing touches such as wax seals, ribbons and stickers, but less is often more. Limit yourself to 2-3 highlights in the entire stationery. I love wax seals, silk ribbons and the like - no question about it - but I would never use them all at the same time for the stationery. Think about which finishing touches are important to you and create a sample to test the effect. Too little space around the edges : Make sure you leave enough space around the edges of your invitations to make the design look airy and professional. To achieve a professional design, leave at least 1.5 centimeters of space around the edges (excluding watercolor elements or graphics that you want to extend beyond the edge). Pixelated photos or graphics : Make sure that the quality of your photos and graphics is sufficient and does not appear pixelated. Photos that you have received via WhatsApp are not suitable for printing. The file size can be an important indicator. Photo files under 1 MB should only fit on the invitation in very small quantities. If your photos are to fill the entire front, I recommend making sure the file size is over 1 MB. More is of course better. Cell phone photos taken in daylight are now absolutely sufficient, as long as they have not been compressed by messenger or editing apps. Hard to read font : Choose clear and easy to read fonts and make sure that the font size is appropriate. The more curved and detailed the font, the harder it is to read. Of course, that doesn't mean that you shouldn't use decorative fonts for your stationery. But make sure that the font is always big enough and maybe use it for headings or your names on the front. For the body text, I recommend a simple and clear font in combination with the decorative font. Other adjustments here are line spacing and font color. It doesn't necessarily have to be black, but to ensure good legibility, we strongly advise against light yellow and cream tones (if you are printing on white paper). Lack of structure in the content : Structure your content with subheadings, highlights and symbols to make your invitations clearer and more appealing. Subheadings and highlights can ensure that your invitation gains structure and form. If you print long texts without paragraphs on the invitation, guests will not only be overwhelmed by the amount of information. They will also have a harder time finding important information. Wrong choice of paper : Choose a high-quality paper with a grammage of at least 200 g/m² that is suitable for your printer and reproduces the colors well. The biggest mistake when it comes to wedding invitations is choosing the wrong paper. A more detailed blog post will follow shortly. But how do you find good paper? Unfortunately not by ordering it "blindly" online. Here again, we recommend well-stocked art shops. Alternatively, you can order paper samples online for little money from many online printing companies and craft shops. It is definitely worth it so that you can get a feel for the paper weight, colors and texture. I recommend a grammage of at least 200 g/m² for DIY cards. For reference: For my wedding stationery, the paper starts at 260g/m²! Especially if you print your invitations at home, make sure that the paper is suitable for your printer. Otherwise you run the risk that the colors will not be displayed well or the text will run. With these tips, you'll be well equipped to make your DIY wedding invitations a success. But no matter what you decide, I'm always here to support and inspire you. Photo: @lebfreier.photography
